ParkNetz - Sector-independent networking in healthcare for people with Parkinson's disease in southern Lower Saxony
The ParkNetz project focuses on identifying the needs and wishes for a regional, sector-independent, and interprofessional care network for people with Parkinson's disease in southern Lower Saxony (districts of Hildesheim, Holzminden, Goslar, Northeim, Göttingen).
Parkinson's is the second most common neurodegenerative disease. Over decades, those affected require increasing support in their living environment, e.g., from general practitioners, specialists from neurology and other fields, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech and language therapists, (neuro)psychologists, nurses, and also from self-help and family support services. To reach optimal care, networking among these stakeholders is essential.

Project objective
The aim is to explore how such a network can be set up to provide health-related care for people with Parkinson's disease and their relatives in southern Lower Saxony, where no specific network exists as of now.
Course of the project
First, an analysis of the general healthcare situation regarding Parkinson's disease in southern Lower Saxony will be carried out. In addition to recording regional healthcare structures, a survey will be conducted with professional health workers involved in Parkinson’s care, to identify current services provided in this region and their wishes regarding a regional network.
In addition, strengths and weaknesses of the care situation experienced by people with Parkinson’s disease and their relatives will be examined with them, using participatory research methods. The participatory approach is promising in initiating change. Over the course of multiple co-creation workshops, all stakeholders participate in developing requirements and a concept for a Parkinson's network in southern Lower Saxony.
Another focus in the development of the network concept lies on digital resources for a diverse care landscape and improving communication and cooperation among stakeholders.
The Department of General Practice and Family Medicine is responsible for conducting the survey with professional health workers in southern Lower Saxony.
