Digital multilingual and legally compliant vaccination education

In the wake of the SARS Cov-2 pandemic, the development of appropriate vaccines is a high priority. The goal is to achieve the highest possible vaccination coverage in the population. Communication with non- or barely-German speaking people is a major challenge. As commissioned by the BMG and in collaboration with the RKI, the freely available aidminutes.rescue app is currently being expanded and content added to provide legally secure information to foreign speakers about a COVID-19 vaccination offer so that they can make an informed decision. The app can also be used to document vaccination consent. Support is to be provided for 39 different languages / dialects.
The app contains content to ensure individualized education and is geared to the different information needs and previous knowledge of people with vaccination offers. At the same time, numerous references are provided to enable navigation through the vaccination centers.

Project goals, hypothesis

In addition to the development of the content in close consultation with general practitioners and specialists as well as colleagues from the Robert Koch Institute, an evaluation of its use will be carried out. The aim is to examine whether the use of a technical communication aid leads on the one hand to improved process quality and on the other hand to increased acceptance on the part of the persons to be vaccinated and the persons to be vaccinated. The following questions are to be clarified:

How often is the app used and for which languages?
Which content is preferred in the app?
How do users navigate through the app? Is essential content found?
What experiences do users have with the app? Is it perceived as helpful and useful?

Study design and methodology

This is based on anonymous event sourcing data obtained in the course of using the application. Consent to the release of this eventsourcing data is voluntary and revocable.
To answer the question about the subjective experiences of the users, they should be able to participate in a voluntary online or telephone survey. This will be indicated in the app and on the project homepage.

Intervention

The intervention can be obtained from the homepage of the project partners aidminutes GmbH https://impfen.aidminutes.com/ or from the AppStore (iOS), GooglePlayStore (Android) or Huawei AppGallery and is executable on all common smartphones and tablets.

Participating institutions

  • aidminutes GmbH (project management, technical and content implementation)
  • Institute of General Medicine, University Medical Center Göttingen (content expertise and evaluation)
  • Robert Koch Institute (cooperation partner)

Project funding

The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) with a grant in the area of the Federal Ministry of Health from chapter 1503 title 53105 in fiscal year 2021.
